What is Narrative LIVE?
Narrative LIVE | A Community Learning Experience is our educational series based on the premise that Narrative ideas can be best learned, practiced and embodied in community. This has been our philosophy since our inception in 2006 when we as a group of educators, students and health professionals first began meeting to discuss and practice the tenets of post-structuralism, social constructionism and Narrative Therapy within our integrative health setting. Over the years we have learned that being in the company of supportive colleagues who are paying close attention to relational ethics, performances of power, and with a keen ear towards our narratives of resilience and emerging initiatives, we can come to know ourselves better and begin to cultivate and inhabit the identities we prefer.
How does it work?
Narrative LIVE experiences can take various formats – from workshops to Narrative interviews / outsider witness practices to informal professional development meetings. We strive to create contexts where we can learn together collaboratively and consider how we might move towards decisions and actions that align with our hopes and values. The LIVE aspect reflects our commitment to creating liminal spaces, in the here and now, where we can discuss our work and come to know new things together.
Who is it for?
Narrative LIVE is for educators, students, mental and medical health professionals as well as community members from various disciplines who are interested in learning about and practicing Narrative ideas first developed by Michael White and David Epston. We will discuss some of the important theoretical concepts that underpin Narrative Therapy and demonstrate how they can be put into practice.
Where is it?
Narrative LIVE experiences are now offered in-person in our San Diego offices in the community of Hillcrest, and via Zoom video conference. Zoom details will be shared once you register. Visit our Events page for the next training offerings.
